Next National Mugham Contest is launched following the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

To be held with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Culture Ministry, enjoying the support of the Ministry of Science and Education and the National Conservatoire of Azerbaijan, the contest is scheduled to take place during April 24 to 27, 2023.

Registration for the National Mugham Contest will continue until April 10. Khanendehs and instrumental performers aged 18 to 35 may participate in the music contest. At the time of registration, each participant should provide information about the programme he or she would perform live, solo or accompanied, reflecting the richness and colourfulness of the art of mugham. Applications for participation should be sent in an electronic format to office@spaceofmugam.az. Full name of the applicant, date of birth, contact numbers, email address, information about his/her creativity and the programme to be performed, as well as names of the accompanying staff should be indicated in the application. The contest will consist of two selection and two main rounds. Names of the contenders who gain a right to participate in the contest will be announced on April 20. The first round of the contest is scheduled to take place on April 24 and 25, while the second round will be held on April 26 and 27.

Winners on the categories of khanendeh and instrumental performer will be chosen on April 27. Each of the winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the categories of khanendeh and instrumental performer will earn a prize at the amount of 7,000, 5,000 and 3,000 Manats, respectively.

Winners of the National Mugham Contest will participate in the 6th International Mugham Festival “The World of Mugham”.

Fundamental works have been done in Azerbaijan recent years towards preservation and advancement of mugham. Thanks to the support provided by President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva to our national culture and the art of mugham, the Azerbaijani mugham was entered on the UNESCO’s Representative List of the World’s Intangible Heritage in 2008.

Since 2009, national mugham contests and international mugham festivals are held on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. These projects aim at once more demonstrating the mugham, our national wealth, in the world culture context, and eternalizing it.

"Simurg" Ensemble from Azerbaijan Wins Grand Prix at the 13th Sharq Taronalari Festival in UzbekistanThe Grand Prix of the 13th Sharq Taronalari International Music Festival, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from August 26–30, was awarded to the “Simurg“ mugham ensemble from Azerbaijan. More than 300 representatives from about 80 countries took part in this year's festival, which was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, UNESCO, ICESCO, and TURKSOY. The Mugham ensemble “Simurg,“ consisting of the famous singer Miralam Miralamov and instrumentalists Zaki Valiyev (tar), Elnur Mikayilov (kamancha), Honored Artist Kamran Karimov (drums), Idris Huseynov (oud), and Anar Velizadeh (balaban), for the third time won the main prize of the world-famous festival for Azerbaijan with its outstanding performance. Ministry of Culture Represented at the Moscow Film WeekMoscow Film Week was organized by the Creative Industries Agency of the Russian Federation from August 23 to 28. Minister of Culture Receives Citizens in Astara DistrictIn accordance with the directive of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, every month, heads of central executive power bodies and other administrative institutions receive citizens in various cities and districts and hear citizens' concerns on different issues. ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ Captivates Art Lovers in BeijingThe ballet “The Thousand and One Nights“ by Fikret Amirov, the world-famous composer of Azerbaijan, was performed in Beijing, the capital of China, on August 23-25. The work, which has triumphed on many stages around the world, was performed by the Primorsky stage of St. Petersburg Mariinsky Theater (Vladivostok) as part of the ballet troupe's tour to the People’s Republic of China. Lachin City Day Solemnly CelebratedLachin City Day was celebrated for the second time on August 26 under the organization of the Ministry of Culture and the Special Representation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Lachin region and with the support of “Baku Maintenance Service“ LLC. Maestro Niyazi’s Memory Honored in the Alley of HonorAugust 20 was the 112th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous conductor and composer, People's Artist of Azerbaijan and the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor, and receiver of state awards, Niyazi (Niyazi Tagızadeh-Hajibeyov; 1912–1984). National Cinema Day Celebrated with Ceremony The 126th anniversary of cinema in Azerbaijan was celebrated on August 2. This important date dates back to August 2, 1898, when the first films were publicly screened in Baku. According to the order signed by the national leader Heydar Aliyev on December 18, 2000, August 2 was declared the “National Cinema Day“ of Azerbaijan. On this remarkable day, a solemn event took place at the Nizami Cinema Center under the organization of the Ministry of Culture. At the event, attended by ministry officials, cultural figures, representatives of the film community, and film lovers, guests first explored the history of our cinema through an exhibition at the Nizami Cinema Center. The Azerbaijani Carpets: Dialogue with Nature Exhibition Opened in MontenegroOn August 1, the Azerbaijani Carpet: Dialogue with Nature exhibition was opened at the Miodrag Dado Djuric Art Gallery of the National Museum of Montenegro. New Ballet Production "One Thousand and One Nights" Debuts in Beijing “One Thousand and One Nights“, the ballet by Fikret Amirov, the distinguished Azerbaijani composer and People's Artist of the USSR (1922-1984) and a laureate of state awards, continues to captivate the world stage.
