The 10th Baku International Book Fair (Baku International Book Fair 2024) will take place from October 2 to 8 at the Baku Expo Center under the organization of the Ministry of Culture, with the participation of 18 countries.
A press conference on the exhibition was held on September 30. Aynur Karimova, the Head of the Department of Media and Communication of the Ministry of Culture, said that this year's jubilee exhibition will celebrate the 530th anniversary of the birth of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Muhammad Fuzuli (1494-1556). According to Akif Marifli, Head of the Book Industry Department of the Ministry, 56 foreign organizations from 18 countries across 4 continents and 110 local publishing houses and book art enterprises will take part in the exhibition. In addition to Azerbaijan, well-known writers and poets, scientists, and young writers from Turkiye, Italy, China, Russia, the Republic of Korea, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Uzbekistan, Oman, Argentina, Morocco, Venezuela, Georgia, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Mongolia will participate in the exhibition.
It was pointed out that the Book Fair, traditionally held for 5 days in the past three years, will be extended to 7 days this year. The exhibition program includes a total of 327 events, such as master classes for all ages, book presentations, book signings, conferences, symposiums, competitions, readings, and musical performances. This is the highest number in the 15-year history of the Baku International Book Fair. It was noted that the world-famous Irish author John Boyne and the German author Wulf Dorn will attend the event as "honorary guests." John Boyne is the author of 25 books translated into 46 languages. The meeting with the Irish author will take place on October 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the "Fuzuli" presentation area of the fair. Known as one of Germany's most popular authors of psychological thrillers, Wulf Dorn achieved great fame with his debut novel, "Psychiatrist."
The exhibition will feature another guest author from Germany, Fariba Vafi. Born in Tabriz, South Azerbaijan, she has been awarded the prestigious German literary prize "Liberaturpries."
Rovshan Abdullaoghlu, the honorary author of the exhibition, emphasized the importance of international exhibitions for writers and said that the Baku International Book Fair is a remarkable platform in this regard.
Shahbaz Khuduoghlu, the head of the publishing house "Qanun," spoke about the culture of reading books and shared his opinion about the current state of the book industry in our country. He mentioned that Qanun Publishing House will offer books to readers at discounted prices during the exhibition.
Afterwards, the questions of media representatives were answered.
Special buses will transport visitors from the "Academy of Sciences," "28th May," and "Koroghlu" metro stations to the Baku Expo Center.
