Minister of Culture Meets with the Staff of the National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature
On November 1, the National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature, named after Nizami Ganjavi, celebrated its 85th anniversary. On this occasion, Minister of Culture Adil Karimli visited the museum and met with its staff.
The director of the museum, deputy chairman of Milli Majlis academician Rafael Huseynov, spoke about the history of the cultural center. He emphasized that the museum was founded on November 1, 1939, by the decision of the Council of People's Commissars of the Azerbaijan SSR within the framework of preparations for the 800th anniversary of the birth of the great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi. However, due to World War II, it was officially opened on May 14, 1945.
According to him, this sacred palace of words, the only literary museum that preserves the entire literary history of our country from its beginnings to the present, has been devoted to the promotion of the ancient culture and rich literary heritage of the Azerbaijani people for almost a century. The upgraded and fully computerized exposition of the museum, which reflects the stages of development of Azerbaijani literature, is now equipped with the latest tools and meets modern international standards. The museum is a popular destination for visitors from all over the world who view with great interest its collection of ancient manuscripts, paintings, carpets, rare books, miniatures, calligraphic works, numismatic pieces, writers' memorabilia, and documentary photographs.
The modernized exposition of the museum provides the visitors with the opportunity to view on monitors valuable audio and video content, including fragments of various films, stage performances, compositions of prominent Azerbaijani composers, and poems recited by famous actors.
The memorial collections of many literary and artistic figures in the museum provide extensive research opportunities for scholars.
Minister of Culture Adil Karimli said that the National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature is a repository of our national values. For many years, the museum has operated under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and has left an important legacy. Its inclusion under the Ministry of Culture is of great significance. He emphasized that Azerbaijan’s cultural policy today is focused on science, education, and overall enlightenment, a central aspect of President Ilham Aliyev's policy. "This museum plays a crucial role in the preservation and promotion of Azerbaijani literature and culture," he added.
The Minister congratulated the staff of the museum on the occasion of its 85th anniversary and wished them success in their activities.
Later, in recognition of their contributions to the development of Azerbaijani culture and on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the museum, the staff was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Culture.
Adil Karimli presented the honorary diploma to Rafael Huseynov, the director of the museum, and they took a commemorative photo together.
After the meeting, the minister explored the museum's rich collection.
