The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), taking place in Baku from November 11 to 22, continues with various events, presentations, bilateral meetings, and discussions.
On November 16, a bilateral meeting took place between Aruna Francesca Maria Gujral, Director General of the International Center for the Study of Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), and Adil Karimli, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The minister welcomed the guest and thanked her for attending the COP29 event. He noted that Azerbaijan has always prioritized the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage.
With the support of the state and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, Azerbaijan has successfully contributed to the preservation of religious monuments around the world. The country has financed projects such as the reconstruction of the Islamic culture section of the Louvre Museum in Paris, the restoration of Strasbourg Cathedral, and the renovation of the "Hall of Philosophers" at the Capitoline Museum in Rome.
The minister informed the guest about the destruction and looting of Azerbaijan's historical and cultural heritage in the territories occupied by Armenia for almost 30 years. He added that the State is currently making systematic efforts to restore the destroyed monuments.
The Director General of ICCROM expressed her gratitude for the high-level organization of COP29 and the opportunity to meet.
The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and ICCROM, exchanging experiences in the field of protection and restoration of cultural heritage, organizing joint trainings and webinars, and other related issues. At the end of the meeting, the guest was presented with a gift.
