On September 24, in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the Kazakh National Musical Drama Theatre named after K. Kuanishbayev hosted an ethno-jazz concert of the group "Zaman" from our country within the framework of the Days of Azerbaijani Culture. Before the concert, the artistic director of the group, Vasif Huseyn, expressed his deep interest in national musical instruments: “My interest and love for our national musical instruments inspired the creation of the group "Zaman." In the group, Azerbaijani balaban, reed pipe, zurna, etc. are played. I use many instruments.I preserve the inherent character of these national instruments and combine them with Western instruments when appropriate”. Then the music took over.
The group "Zaman" (Saleh Mammadov on bass guitar, Eyvaz Hashimov on drums, and Fagan Rahmanoghlu on wind instruments) and pianist and composer Vasif Huseyn (also the group's artistic director) presented an engaging program. The program included Vasif Huseyn's "Once upon a time," Vagif Mustafazadeh's "Springtime," Hans Zimmer's "Improvise" and "Interstellar," and the Kazakh folk song "Yapuray." Kazakh music lovers showed great interest in the concert and applauded the performers.
It's worth mentioning that Vagif Mustafazadeh (1940–1979), considered a legend of Azerbaijani jazz, developed a unique performance style. He pioneered a new musical genre, jazz-mugham, by mixing traditional mugham with jazz elements. Even today, the jazz-mugham synthesis introduced by Vagif Mustafazadeh is used by many musicians.
