Three years have passed since the 44-day Patriotic War, which ended with a glorious victory and has been written in golden letters in our modern history. On September 27, 2020, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the brave Azerbaijani Army launched a counter-offensive to fight for the freedom of our ancient lands in response to the large-scale provocation of the invading Armenian armed forces.
With the unprecedented sacrifices and bravery of the sons of the Motherland, the thirty-year occupation was ended in just 44 days, Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, including our cultural capital Shusha, were liberated from the enemy. With the brilliant Victory of our Army, our nation has embraced the everlasting spirit of triumph. Thousands of our heroes have risen to the pinnacle of martyrdom.
Based on the order of President Ilham Aliyev dated December 2, 2020, September 27 was declared the Day of Remembrance in Azerbaijan as a sign of respect for our soldiers and officers, as well as all our martyrs who fought heroically in this war and sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of our country.
On September 27, employees of the Ministry of Culture laid flowers in front of the memorial stone at the entrance of the Victory Park, which is under construction in Baku, and paid homage to the immortal souls of the heroic sons and daughter of the Motherland.
